Update from Dunnington Green Initiatives Group

A stone painted to look like a bee complete with wings made out of wire, next to another stone with a green heart painted on it and the words Pollinator Friendly Plants.

Dates for your Diary and a Request for Donations

Dunnington Green Initiatives Group (GIG) is helping to organise a couple of community events – both as not-for-profit fundraisers for the Disasters Emergency Committee and St Nicholas Church Building Fund.

Can you offer … bee-themed decorations or pollinator-friendly plants or beelicious biscuits/cakes or help on the event days?

Bee Friendly Crafts & Plants Sale

Saturday 9th July 10am-1pm at St Nicholas Church

To raise funds for our charities, we will be selling budget-friendly bee-themed decorations and inexpensive pollinator-friendly plants. Our children’s groups/settings are hoping to help with some donated crafts/plants and GIG has been in contact with other community groups. So far, we’ve had a couple of individuals offering donations, but it would be great if others could help too. If you could grow bee-friendly flowers or make bee decorations (e.g. painted stones, pom-pom bees, bee-shaped signs) to be included in the sale, we’d love to hear from you on DunningtonGIG@gmail.com.

Bee Friendly Trail & Sweet Treats Sale

Saturday 23rd July & Sunday 24th July

Like a scarecrow trail but with a twist. We’ll be encouraging residents, community groups and local businesses to sign up for our fund-raising trail. The basics are …

‘pollinator-friendly plant + out front + decoration/display of bees/other pollinators’

The level of commitment is up to you. You can keep it simple, or you can have fun with the theme (e.g. family-friendly puns encouraged). For details on how to sign up, see our ‘How to Bee Friendly & Sign Up for the Trail’ note on Dunnington GIG’s new Facebook page. Further help is being made available via our page and in The Grapevine.

To make sure our trail walkers have enough energy to trek around the village, we’ll be raising further funds by selling sweet treats (e.g. cakes, biscuits). If you can help by baking sweet treats or by serving at the refreshments stall, we’d be delighted to hear from you. Please e-mail DunningtonGIG@gmail.com or add your name to the list in the Tower Room at St Nicholas Church.

Hope you can help & look forward to hearing from you.
