This is an information pack produced by North Yorkshire Police in response to the tragic events in Solihull.

In Solihull, near Birmingham, emergency services spent most of Sunday 11th December rescuing people from a lake.

The lake had iced over and people were playing on it. The ice then broke, trapping people under the water.

A significant number of people are in critical condition in hospital.

Update on Monday 12th December:
3 boys have died after being trapped under the ice. A fourth boy remains in a critical condition.

The weather has turned, with this cold spell expected to last all week.

Especially with large bodies of water, ice isn’t secure. It may be very thin in places and break. However, a thin sheet of ice may reappear very quickly, trapping someone underwater.

It is important for your own safety not to go on ice.

Go to the Designer Outlet if you wish to go ice skating.

Keep yourselves safe - make the right choices and stay away from the ice. Frozen bodies of water can kill. Don’t risk it.
