Dunnington Parish Council

Annual Review 2023

At this time of the year, it’s good to reflect on some of the events, activities and moments that have taken place in Dunnington across 2023.

Following the elections in May, we said thank you and goodbye to Cllr Turnbull and Brooks who both dedicated years to Dunnington and we welcomed Cllr Anderson, Cllr Rowley, and Cllr Major to the team.

The Parish Council have been working hard to maintain Dunnington as a beautiful, safe, and healthy place to live. We are fortunate in Dunnington to have some excellent open spaces and sports facilities. Our playground and Village Green are well used by residents and Julias Garden and Hassacarr Nature Reserve are wonderful assets.

Of course, it’s not just members of the Parish Council that contribute to making Dunnington such a great place. It’s all of you that make Dunnington a thriving community and you deserve thanks for what you do. Thank you so much. The Chairman would like to thank all the Parish Councillors
and the Parish Clerk for all their hard work during the year.

Some of the areas that we have been involved with this year are:

Amongst other things:

  • Progressing the Neighbourhood Plan and Design Code ready for public consultation mid next year
  • Hosting an event to mark the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III in conjunction with other village groups and many, many volunteers.
  • Launching a Refurbishment project at the Scouts and Guides Building.
  • Enhancing the Common Land owned by the Council, including tree management work.
  • Commencing Phase 2 of the cemetery.
  • Reviewing 33 planning applications in Dunnington so far this year.
  • Lobbying City of York Council to act on issues important to residents such as verge and parking issues around the village, the reduction of speed limits or highways changes and the ongoing blocking of the layby on the A166.
  • Working with the neighbourhood policing teams to ensure that crime stays low in the village.
  • Completing several large remedial repairs to the playpark, including the installation of new safety surfacing.
  • Working closely with the In Bloom team to support their work in keeping Dunnington looking so vibrant and neat.
  • Supplying a new life belt for Hassacarr Nature Reserve
  • Supporting the Lights/Trees at Christmas.

  • Hold the Annual Parish Meeting on the 21st March at 7.30pm in the Reading Room. Don’t forget you can see Parish Council news and dates of our meetings here on our website.
  • Planning a Grant Aid application process that will enable local groups that serve and support our local community to apply for financial assistance.
  • Improving the condition of Phase 1 at the cemetery
  • Installing a new bench on Common Road.
