Lib Dems spark confusion over Dunnington’s Green Belt boundary

The cover of the Dunnington's FOCUS newsletter.

A recent mailshot by Liberal Democrats in Dunnington has caused confusion due to two different depictions of the Green Belt boundary around the village.

Two versions of the Lib Dem FOCUS newsletter have recently been distributed to residents. Both versions bear the headline “Last Chance to Back York’s Green Belt” and encourage residents to sign a petition to preserve Dunnington’s Green Belt boundary.

In the initial version of the newsletter, the land earmarked for the proposed housing development on Eastfield Lane was included in the Green Belt but in the subsequent version, the land was excluded from the proposed Green Belt boundary.

It is unclear how the petition in the newsletter will be used, but any resident who has signed the petition may wish to check if they have signed to support the original Green Belt boundary, which includes the proposed housing development site, or have signed to support the proposed Green Belt boundary, which excludes the proposed housing development site and therefore has less protection from planning proposals.

Dunnington Parish Council has submitted a strong objection to the removal of the proposed housing development site from the Green Belt.
